Project Description
The Major Drainageway Planning and FHAD study area encompasses the East Tollgate Creek upper watershed within the City of Aurora and Arapahoe County. The general boundaries of the drainage basin begin at Hampden Avenue at the downstream end and extend upstream to the Southlands Mall. E-470 generally bisects the basin which is approximately three miles long and averages one mile wide. The upper reaches of the basin are developed with commercial and residential properties while the lower basin is less developed. The upper basin channel includes an urban design while the lower basin possesses a distinctly native channel. This project is being completed on behalf of the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District (UDFCD), Southeast Metro Stormwater Authority (SEMSWA), and the City of Aurora for the express purpose of quantifying flood flows, identifying regional detention and water quality improvements, and mapping flood hazards. The project is being developed with consideration for other regional improvements, including the Gun Club Road widening project and open space needs for Arapahoe County Parks.
